September of 2017, Marquel & I spent a couple days in beautiful Maui! Every direction I looked all I could see were hilltops after hilltops, palm trees after palm trees.. and the beautiful clear blue ocean surrounding me!! I forgot to mention this was our first time traveling alone without our 2 year old.. So did we take advantage of it? HECK to-the MUTHA-FU**IN YEAH!!!!
DAY 1 – SETTLE IN
First thing of course was to settle in. We stayed at the Honua Kai Resort & Spa in Lahaina. Let me just tell you!!! This place is amazing.. You can literally walk from the pool to the beach in less than a minute.
Oh yeah and the food is BOMB. Every single day I was there I had a plate of nachos and at least two Mai Tais from Duke’s Beach House.. Yes. I said EVERY SINGLE DAY. It was that good.
I’ll explain in detail.. ” Black bean nachos w/ Kalua Pork or Chicken: House fried chips, four cheeses, charred jalenpeño crema, pico de gallo & avocado.”
And my mouth is watering as I write.. After nachos and drinks we spent the rest of the afternoon in the pool and took the minute walk to the beach.
DAY 2 – MOLOKINI CRATER / SWIMMING WITH TURTLES!
I can basically say I traveled back in time lol.. The time difference from Portland, OR to Hawaii is 2 hours. So I was extra awake for snorkeling with turtles! “Molokini Crater formed about 150 thousand years ago.” Snorkeling is definitely one of the things on my bucket list and the fact that I got to snorkel a place so historic is even more amazing. A few things I recommend if you ever plan on snorkeling is to definitely bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and most importantly bring a waterproof case to take underwater pics!
Day 3 – DOWNTOWN LAHAHINA & BANYAN TREE PARK
This day we relaxed and explored many shops in Downtown Lahaina. This area is perfect for souvenirs, shopping and eating of course. One thing you have to try is Hawaiian shaved ice!
And in front of the Lahaina Courthouse is of course the HUGE Banyan Tree. Something you can’t miss.
Day 4 – ZIP-LINE, TWIN FALLS & BAMBOO FOREST “NA’ILI’ILI HAELE”
YES. We actually managed to do everything in one day! We started off our morning at North Shore Zipline which has 7 different zip lines and overlooks Maui’s North Shore. Perfect for those zip-lining for the first time! Twin Falls was only 15 minutes away from the zip line tour so we did not hesitate at all! Twin Falls is part of Wailele Farm and has three amazing waterfalls to experience. This spot is definitely checked off my bucket list! And lastly, “Na’ili’ili Haele” know as (bamboo forest). If I knew this place also had many waterfalls.. and many mosquitos lol. I would’ve prepared better. Bamboo Forest is along Hana Highway or the Road to Hana. Before I go on talking about this destination. I highly recommend going in a group or pairs. Lots of rock, mud, and definitely lots of water. This place is probably my favorite of the three. I did not expect for us to come across waterfalls! And to come across a waterfall we could swim in! The scenery is amazing. You literally are walking through a forest of bamboos!
In my video, “A Trip To.. MAUI PART 2” I have little sections of each area I covered in DAY 4 that I will link right here 👉🏽 https://youtu.be/FeP28y7eRz0
Day 5 – HOLD ON.. WE’RE GOIN’ HOME!
And our last day in Maui before our flight we had some time to enjoy breakfast on the balcony with our amazing view of the hilltops and palm trees. Even though we missed our daughter back home, we definitely admired our stay and appreciate the hospitality at the resort. Definitely will go back to Maui again! Mahalo to everyone reading my blog!
